The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) has begun, and we’ve got all the details you need to know.

The 2022 AEP began on October 15th, 2021, and runs until December 7th, 2021. This is the time that beneficiaries may review their Medicare plan options and make any necessary adjustments for the 2022 plan year.

If you missed out on reviewing your coverage last year, here’s what you need to know.

What Changes Can Occur in My Medicare Insurance Coverage?

Every year, Medicare Advantage Plan members receive their ANOC (Annual Notice of Changes). Your ANOC covers any changes in coverage, costs, and service areas. Your ANOC will also inform you of changes to your premium, co-payments, pharmacy network, or drug formularies.

You should review this important document to make sure the coverage satisfies your healthcare needs. Any changes made to your Medicare Advantage coverage will become effective on January 1st, 2022.

Do I Need to Do Anything During the AEP 2022?

At the very least, you need to review your current coverage and the changes to your plan to ensure it still meets your health care needs. Many beneficiaries chose not to review plan options last year due to Covid-19. Don’t let another year pass without knowing what your plan offers. Many plans have added ancillary benefits that can enhance your healthcare options.

Now is the time to review your plan and adjust accordingly before December 7th, 2021.

What Changes Can I Make During AEP?

Below are some changes that you can make during AEP (October 15th-December 7th, 2021):

  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another
  • If you have a stand-alone part D Plan you can change it
  • Enroll in a Medicare Part D plan
  • Remove your Part D coverage

A Reminder of Important Dates

AEP 2022 runs from October 15th-December 7th, 2021. Additionally, if you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan, there is the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) from January 1st – March 31st  each year that allows the Medicare beneficiary to make a one-time change to your Medicare Advantage Plan.

There is some flexibility with making changes to your Medicare coverage outside of these dates. However, these changes are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
