Following months of unsuccessful contract negotiations, Providence Health & Services has announced that their contract with Premera Blue Cross will be terminated effective January 1, 2017. This decision impacts Premera members covered by Group and Individual & Family plans and as of right now does not impact Premera Blue Cross Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement plan members.
Unless negotiations are brought back to the table, which Premera has made clear they hope is the case, patients with group or individual Premera coverage will no longer be able to see providers as “in-network” at Providence, Swedish Medical Center, PacMed, and Kadlec Regional Center sites in Washington effective January 1st, 2017. In addition, affiliated doctors and clinics will also be out of network for Premera members.
A list of facilities and clinics affected can be found here: http://www.providence.org/premera/facilities-and-clinics
