Update Contract Renewed

UnitedHealthcare’s current agreement with CHI Franciscan Health System is set to expire on March 31, 2015. This is not a terribly unusual occurrence between health plans and health care providers, and in most cases agreements are reached without any significant impact on patients. Still, there is always the possibility that the parties will be unable to come to terms and if that were to happen, UnitedHealthcare plan members in the Pierce county area will be impacted.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t panic! This issue is likely to be resolved and there will be no impact on you. The time to consider a change is once all the facts are in. Don’t let someone convince you otherwise.
  • This change impacts only those covered by a UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan. If you are enrolled in one of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Supplement plans, this does NOT affect you.
  • This change will only affect network hospitals. If you use a Franciscan Primary Care doctor, you will be able to continue to use that doctor.
  • There are other protections (such as your plan’s Continuity of Care provisions) available to you.
