Important Changes to Medicare
Each year, Medicare Beneficiaries have a window of time to evaluate their Medicare insurance options including Prescription Drug plans. This is referred to as the Open Enrollment Period.
The Open Enrollment Period can be a challenge and we want you to rest assured; VibrantUSA is here to assist you every step of the way. Here are a few important facts for your consideration:
- Annual Notice of Change Letter: If you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you will receive a letter from your insurance company around the end of September describing any changes to the plan benefits, premiums or service areas. (We are anticipating significant changes by several of the insurance companies in your area). You will want to review this letter carefully and maintain a copy for your records. After your review, if you wish to remain in the plan, there is nothing more for you to do. Your policy will “rollover” to the next year. If you want to make a change or consider other plans, call VibrantUSA. We represent nearly all plans available in the state of Washington and will be pleased to assist you.
- Prescription Drug Coverage continues to improve. In 2013 the gap or donut hole for prescription drugs will be reduced. People with high prescription drug expense who enter the gap will be able to purchase all brand-name Medicare approved prescriptions for a 47.5% reduced rate. For generics, they will pay a reduced amount of 79% of the cost of the drug.
- Annual Disenrollment Period – January 1 to February 14, 2013: This is a carryover from last year that many people still do not understand. Simply put, it is another opportunity for you to drop a Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare. If you do disenroll and your plan included prescription drugs, you can purchase a standalone prescription drug plan. You may not purchase a Medicare Advantage plan at this time.
All enrollments to a Medicare Advantage plan or Prescription Drug plan must be completed by December 7, 2012. (Exceptions remain for special election periods.)
